HDD recorders? XClef and Iriver in particular

Hi all.
Well, I have been looking at, and putting off, getting an iriver portable audio player/recorder for some time now, firstly because of its price tag, secondly because of the possibility of porting rockbox speech software to the device. Having heard that the latter is still light years away, then the former option about which I was less reluctant stands.
This aside, I recently read some information about a player called an XClef. Research showed this to be one excellent beast. It had everything the Iriver h340 has, and more. It can play ogg vorbis, which is important to me, can record into mp3 at 320kbps, has mic, and line in. The big question is that A Word. how accessible is the XClef? I know individuals who are blind/vision impaired who can get by with an iriver, though not sure how much recording they've done on their device, whilst mine will be almost exclusively for recording.
Any stories, re: recording on either of these devices, or in fact any hdd recorder for that matter, would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
Sam
